Solomon’s Island Dock Day

The forecast all week had been calling for heavy winds, so we planned ahead and declared this a dock day. Heather worked until noon, and then we set out to explore Solomon’s — not fully realizing what we were about to stumble into.
After lunch and a necessary stop for ice cream (Mint Moose Tracks for Heather and a hot fudge sundae with banana pudding ice cream for Kevin), we noticed the unmistakable roar overhead.
The Blue Angels were practicing for the upcoming air show at Naval Air Station Patuxent River.
For the next stretch of the afternoon, we stood out in the heat and wind, watching these incredible pilots do what they do best. It never gets old — the precision, the speed, the sheer insanity of what they’re capable of. Hot and windy or not, it was absolutely worth it (although some refreshing drinks at The Tiki Bar helped relieve a bit of the heat).
