Dock Days

Not every day is a fun day on the Loop. Some days…are for cleaning.

Docked and plugged in, we traded in cruising plans for a “boat reset” day. Even when you try and stay on top of things when you’re on the move—salt spray builds up, decks get gritty, and somehow every surface inside collects a fine layer of dust that seems to come out of no where.

So we divided and conquered. Kevin tackled the exterior – rinsing and scrubbing, while Heather went all in on the interior—wiping down surfaces, vacuuming, organizing, and restoring a sense of order below deck. It’s not glamorous, but there’s something satisfying about a clean, organized boat – and we have to keep up with the 100+ foot crewed Ocean Alexander “Catalina” from Naples, Florida.

By the end of the day, we were completely wiped. Thankfully, there is a restaurant right at the marina, and we happily took advantage of the convenience. We secured the final two seats at the bar – and even ran into a couple from Vero Beach.

Dinner did not disappoint. Heather had flounder over a sweet corn and bacon risotto—easily one of the best she’s ever had. Kevin went with redfish over loaded mashed potatoes and broccolini and said it was just as fantastic. After a long day of cleaning, it felt like a well-earned reward.

Flounder

Sunday, we wrapped up the last of the cleaning and finally shifted gears back into exploration mode, taking advantage of everything St. Simons has to offer. We made a few memorable stops along the way: The Beachcomber, a laid-back beach bar with live music and character; East Bay Yacht Club, with its midcentury modern vibe, craft cocktails, and unexpectedly creative hot dogs (yes—Heather went for the caviar-topped version, while Kevin opted for one covered in Flaming Hot Cheetos); and Village Inn & Pub – our last before our last.

By the time the evening rolled around, the winds had picked up and the boat was rocking just enough to remind us that even at the dock, we’re at the mercy of the water. After a couple of stationary days, we’re starting to feel a little antsy.

Next stop: Darien. And we’re more than ready to get moving again.

Omg! I can’t imagine how that cheeto hotdog tasted! The flounder looks amazing though!
