Darien – Kilkenny
Tuesday, May 26
41.4 nm – 6.75 hour underway
After our detour inland to Darien, we began the morning retracing our path back to the ICW. This stretch of the ICW is classic coastal Georgia – wide open sounds, followed by narrow, twisting rivers full of biting flies. It keeps you engaged: watching depths, timing tides, and staying alert for shoaling – while still trying to appreciate the beauty around you.
By mid-afternoon, we turned off the ICW toward Kilkenny Creek – a short and easy run from the channel. While most stop here for the restaurant, it happened to be closed on Tuesday – which worked for us – our waistlines and wallets can use an evening on the boat!

Calling Kilkenny “rustic” isn’t just accurate—it’s part of its charm. This is a working marina, not a resort marina, and that’s part of what makes it a popular Looper spot.
The docks are simple – two by fours replace what would normally be cleats. This definitely isn’t a stop to be pampered, but it forces you to slow down. The surrounding marsh stretches in every direction, and watching the tide come up from the boat is peaceful.

It felt good to step off the boat and into somewhere so quiet. No crowds, no noise—just the occasional bird call and the movement of the water. Today was all about finding a quiet place to tie up, catch our breath – and get ready for the mayhem of Savannah tomorrow.
